SO helps to save lives...

On Sunday 13th July, the CEO of SO Group UK Bill Murray attended a charity event at Calshot Lifeboat Station to show his support for the RNLI with a donation on behalf of the company. The family friendly open day raised awareness of what the nationwide charity do, which SO Group has decided to support this month.
Featuring a fantastic schedule of events including a coastguard helicopter lifesaving display, station and lifeboat tours, sea safety info, kids games, treasure hunts, stalls and BBQ, the Calshot Station Open Day was a fun-filled day out for the whole family.
Since its establishment in 1824, the RNLI has saved over 140,000 lives at sea. This equates to a huge 23 lives a day, making them one of the UK’s longest running and most relied on charities. Funded solely by public donations, the RNLI provides a 24 hour lifeboat and search and rescue service across the UK. With seasonal lifeguard patrols and flood rescue assistance also incorporated into the RNLI service, the charity plays a pivotal role in keeping the nation safe.
However with costs in excess of £140 million each year, being the backbone of UK ocean safety service is not cheap. Yet thanks to the generous support of individuals and businesses alike, the RNLI is able to continue to rescue lives and respond to emergencies and incidents around the clock. The open-handed donation from SO Group UK will help the RNLI continue their amazing work, used to fund the maintenance of the lifeboat fleet and cost of crew training as well as purchase essential kit for lifeguard and lifeboat teams.
Bill Murray, CEO at SO Group UK says “As a company with a social conscience, we are dedicated to giving back to the community in any way we can. This month, we have chosen RNLI, not only for its admirable work but also because it provides a service that is close to our hearts. Being situated on the coast, we know many people who have had first-hand assistance and even lifesaving help from its incredible rescue services team.”
We would like to wish the RNLI every success, from every member of staff here at SO Group UK. Check out the photographs of the cheque handover at the event, with our donation and representatives from the charity.
